Art of Chainsaw Carving - Wood Carving Illustrated

Award-winning carvers reveal unique characters hidden inside the strange and wonderful world of Cypress Knees

East Petersburg, PA. Two award-winning wood carvers, Carole Jean Boyd and Jack A. Williams will be among the master carvers competing at the Woodcarving Showcase and Competition, September 30 – October 2 at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.

Carole Jean Boyd and Jack Williams, co-authors of a recently published book, Carving Cypress Knees, will demonstrate how they unlock the whimsical characters and wood spirits from within one of nature’s most unique woods, cypress knees. Carole Jean Boyd is well-known for her artistic ability – the eyes of her characters – including Father Christmas - seem to follow you from one side of the room to the other – and she’s willing to show and tell others exactly how she does it!

Carole Jean has won Best of Show awards at the Blue Earth Show in Minnesota and at the War Eagle Fall Fair in Arkansas. In addition to the numerous first-place awards she has received at woodcarving competitions, she also teaches woodcarving in her Old South Wood Carving Studio in Montgomery, Alabama and at woodcarving clubs throughout the United States.

Jack A. Williams’ artistic talents have been recognized with many awards – among them Best of Show at the National Caricature Carving Competition, Best of Show at the Ward Wildfowl Carving Competition, Best of Wood Sculpture at Dollywood and Best of Division at the International Woodcarvers Congress. He is the President and co-founder of the Tennessee Carver’s Guild. Jack is a co-author of Carving Found Wood with Vic Hood and of The Illustrated Guide to Carving Tree Bark with Rick Jensen, both published by Fox Chapel Publishing Co., Inc.

Carving Cypress Knees is available at local bookstores and online booksellers for $17.95. Fox Chapel is a leading publisher of woodcarving, wood turning and scroll saw books and magazines.
