Call For Entries: 2012 Best Carving Design Contest

Do you have a great new carving you’d like to share with the world? We invite you to enter your original designs in the 2012 Best Carving Design Contest. You’ll compete for prizes, recognition, and the chance to become Woodcarving Illustrated’s newest contributor. Plus, everyone who participates has a chance to win a prize just for submitting an entry. And encourage your friends and family to vote—they could win, too!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Have a question about the contest? Check here first, and if you don’t find an answer, please e-mail us at editors@woodcarvingillustrated.com or call 1-800-457-9112. We’ll add to the FAQ as necessary to keep everyone informed.

Q: My entry is ready now. Do I have to wait until March 15 to send it?

A: No–you can send it now. However, we will wait until the week of March 15 to draw our first winner in the weekly contest to win a free subscription (or renewal).

Q: There’s no Santa category! Where do I enter my Santa?

A: You are welcome to choose the category most appropriate for your carving, such as Realistic, Caricature, or Whittling. You could also enter a Santa in the Open category.

Q: What about chip carvings?

A: While we do not have a specific category for chip carvings this year, you are welcome to enter them in the Open category.

Q: How old can a carving be? Are there any restrictions on when it was carved?

A: No, there are no restrictions on the age of a carving. A carving cannot have been entered in our contest before, but it doesn’t matter when it was carved.

Q: Can I enter a carving that I no longer own? I have photos of it.

A: Yes, you can. Please note, however, that we buy the rights to publish a few projects from every contest. If yours were one of those, would you be willing to carve a new version for an article? If not, you might want to consider entering a different project.

Q: What is the actual deadline: midnight on April 14, or midnight on April 15?

A: Technically, the deadline is midnight on April 15. Realistically, we will not be reviewing entries on Sunday, especially not at midnight. And, since mail is not delivered on Sundays, the final deadline is 5pm Eastern on Monday, April 16.
