Work out the kinks on your gravity-powered racer before the big day

In Pinewood Derby-Style Race Cars 2013, the experts suggest racing and tweaking your car before the race. Below is a short article on how to make your own racetrack.

 

Materials:
PVC lattice strip: 2 each 1/4″ x 1 1/2″ x 8′ (6mm x 38mm x 2.43m)
PVC trim plank: 2 each 3/4″ x 3 1/2″ x 8′ (19mm x 89mm x 2.43m)
Strap hinge: 2″ (51mm)
Machine screw: 8-32 x 1 3/4″ (44mm)
Lock nut, nylon: 8-32
Mending plate or wooden strip 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ (13mm x 14cm)
Spring: 3″ x 1/4″ (76mm x 6mm)
#8 screw eye: 1 5/8″ (41mm)
Weight block
#8 lath screws: 1 5/8″ (41mm)
#8 flat washers
Nylon spring
Electrical tape
